Dentistry project in Rwanda

... In Africa infections in the mouth and in the jaw are life-threatening!
However much pain a tooth abscess can cause, it is not dangerous. Nevertheless, toothache can be terribly painful : you are unable to do anything, you feel ill, you cannot concentrate anymore, you are unable to work . However, it does become dangerous when the dental nerve has perished and the bacteria begin to penetrate the jawbone from the root of the tooth. When this happens, the infection in the jawbone begins to progress and every day aggressive bacteria from this infection can enter the body and ultimately the immune system becomes weakened.
When a child is undernourished and suffering from malaria--- this is the moment where the bacteria from the latent infection in the jawbone can have fatal consequences .. just like an assassin. But also in adults, the immune system becomes weakened as a result of the latent infection in the jawbone. An attack of malaria at this stage becomes even more dangerous and the combination of both can be fatal.

This is the reason why dental treatment in developing countries is often life-saving.
Since 1990, the fADA Foundation has been raising funds for a dental clinic in Rwanda where local health workers have been receiving a comprehensive training in dentistry.

...In Rwanda, with help of your support, life-threatening infections in the jaw can be treated.
fADA concentrates in particular on the majority of the Rwandan population: people who are unable to pay for any medical treatment. This is why fADA opened a dental training clinic in 2004.

Donors in the Netherlands and Belgium subsidize both the dental treatment of poor people and the dental training which is given in their own dental training clinic. In the near future fADA will set up small satellite clinics in health centres in rural Rwanda in accordance with the model of the WHO. Local people will also need to be trained for this purpose.

Contributions towards the progress of the clinic are extremely welcome. More and more patients are coming to the clinic for treatment and can only receive treatment with the help of your support.
